"Lonely Planet's Trekking in the Patagonian Andes" is better for Torres. Dont know about porter, but I did see some people on horses. It's been a while since I was there, so things could have changed.

Hi, Beatiful pictures. I want to go there now. Me and my wife planinig to see torres del paine in december. Is it possible to hire porter in the park? You recommend two books. Which betteer describes torres del paine? Thanks, Zbigniew

hi, about your question, i like too much chilean north, and i have seen that argentinian north is a very good place too

>i am planning a tip to the Patagonia this Nov/Dec. - >Chile would be a better bet than Argentia -Correct? -

Not sure if I can answer that question. We hiked in Torres del Paine in Chile and took a daylong guided bus/boat trip from El Calafate in Argentina to see glaciers in the Los Glaciares National Park. They are nice complementary ways of seeing the landscape. But there are supposed to be great hikes off El Chalten in Argentina too.

>also how did you go abt your travels - thru agents/self

We did it by ourselves.

>etc? and link/references would be great! - I am thinking about 10-12 days.. what all places do you recommend - How

We went for 2 weeks. We did Santiago -> Valparaiso -> Santiago -> plane to Punta Arenas -> bus to Puerto Montt -> 5 day hike in Torres -> back to Montt -> bus to El Calafate (Argentina) -> bus to Rio Gallegos -> plane to Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) -> plane to Buenos Aires. Sometimes there's a direct plane from El Calafate to Ushuaia. Ushuaia has great seafood but if you're short of time that's the first place I'd drop. When we went the peso was very weak and these great restaurants were very affordable. You can also shorten/lengthen the hike in Torres. Mind the ferry schedules across Torres lakes to avoid wasting time.

>long did you go for and are there a lot of grps that go or does one have to land there and figure out the diff trips?

There are plenty of tourists/hikers, mostly European. Refugios (trekkers huts) in Torres can fill up. Also the value hotels in smaller places. Tents give you flexibility but weigh you down.

I recommend Footprint South American Handbook and Lonely Planet's Trekking in the Patagonian Andes.

THis is absolutely amazing....we have been thinking of going to the Patagonias but are a bit confused in terms of whether we shld do the Chilean or the Argentinian. Would ideally wanna do both, what are some of your inputs. And how long did u go for? would really appreciate if you could provide me some advice. Also what months did u go in?

Brilliant photographs! We are currently in Santiago and were planning a trip further down south. Your photographs gave us a great preview. What camera do you use?

Regards, Sandeep
